Blessing from Maha Sangha at Brickfield Buddhist Maha Vihara

Brickfield Buddhist Maha Vihara, one of the earliest buddhist temple in Malaysia, founded in 1984 in the brickfield area, which is very near to KL Sentral.

Tonight, we as Malayan University buddhist student, gather in Brickfield BMV for a very special event, which is the blessing puja for MU students who are going to graduate.

The puja was held under the bodhi tree, started at 7.30pm.

We offer flowers, water, fruits, sweet, candles....

My roomate, Sister Sook Kwan, lighting the lotus candle.

We start puja or chanting. Besides MU students, there are also sisters and brothers in the dhamma, and also maha sangha (monks).

A dhamma gift from maha Sangha (monks) : "Treasure of the Dhamma" and "You and Your Problems", both written by the late chief Rev. K. Sri Dhammananda.

Actually, the evening puja is going on everyday 7.30pm in Brickfield BMV everyday. Do come and join and cultivate good karma.

Environmental friendly food container and chopstick

What do you consider before you purchase a product? Normally, we will consider the price, usage, customer service...etc.

Nowadays, I prefer to buy environmental friendly or green product.

Today, I would like to show you something I always carry with me. It's my food container and chopstick which I bought from Tzu Chi (慈济) a year ago.

I like the design of both the food container and chopstick.

The white food container is simple and nice. It is made of polycarbonate which is also the material of baby feeding-bottle. I bring it with me most of the time. When I "da bao" (take away) food, I will use this rather than polystyrene container, which harm the planet and our own health. Some of the plastic food container is not easy to clean especially after filled with oily food. However, this is not a problem for me because this container is really easy to clean. I can even sterilize it in boiled water as it is heat-resistant (140C).

Besides the food container, I will also bring with me the reusable chopstick. It is always in my bag whenever I go. When I traveled to Taiwan, it was the best tool I used to try the various of instant noodle. The chopstick is consist of two part, the bottom part made of SPS and the handle part made of PC. If I am not convenient to wash it right after use, I will simply wipe it with tissue and put it back to the box. The cleaning job can be done after back to home.

Besides food utensil, there are many more environmental friendly or green product, like energy saving electronic items. Friend, do something for our planet and do something to take care of your health. : )

I miss my family

My brother and wife were visit to Kuala Lumpur last weekend to attend their friend's wedding. I was so happy and touched when I saw what they brought for me from hometown, Kuantan which is 259km away from KL.

2 bottle of "Lo Han Guo" chinese herbal tea 罗汉果凉茶. One for me and one for Donald. My mom boil it in the midnight.

2 pack of herbal as the ingredient of herbal soup. My mom worry if I lack of good nutrition as I always eat outside food in KL. I had cook 1 pack of it during my off day.

Pineapple tart baked by mom.

My favourite, “Yong Bitter Gourd" 酿苦瓜 (the one in red plastic bag). Many youngster do not prefer bitter gourd, but I like it very much. The food cook by mom is always the best in the world! I share it with my house mate and all of them like it too!

I miss my family so much!

Although I can't see them everyday, I will call them everyday to share my life with them.

Since I was in secondary school, my family members were familiar with most of my friends.

When I study in MU , I was active in Buddhist Society. I always share with my mom what activities I had attend and told her what I learned.

When I came to working life, I still keep on our daily conversation and share my working life with them.

When we were small, we always report every single thing happened in school to our parents. What my teacher teach today....what my friends said to me....

However, most of us do not prefer to share everything in our life to parents as we grown up. We hope our parents do not ask so many question on us.
We will said : "Ok!Ok! I am no longer a kid, I know what to do."...."Don't worry, I have my own way to settle it".....

I always remind myself do not treat my family like that. We should maintain the pure heart like a kid. In parents prospective, we are always small children. As they growing old, they still hope they can protect and take care of their children. We should not ignore this and let them feel they cannot partake their children life anymore. We should always share our life with them and asking for their opinion and advices.

Many people think that pay back our parents by giving them money is the best way. Definitely it is not. We should share our life, although we cannot meet everyday.

Monday is my off day, I can relax @ home while others having their monday blue ... :P
However, I am working while others relax @ home during weekend.

Yesterday noon, my boy friend and me were shop around @ Midvalley and The Garden. Although it was a working day, the malls were crowded as usual.

We had our high tea @ the Big Apple Donuts and Coffee in The Garden.

Which favour do you prefer? It's hard to decide, I wish I can try all of it!
They are Mango Tango,Whitnut, Say Cheese, Kiwi Blitz, Moon Raker and Californian Almond.

This is my favourite, Whitnut! I like the peanut butter so much.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced Tuesday (18 Mar) a much leaner 27-member Cabinet line-up, more than half of whom are new faces. The world’s longest serving trade minister Rafidah Aziz is dropped while gadfly Johor UMNO MP Shahrir Samad returns to the Cabinet. Likewise, another appointment of an old face is former Selangor Mentri Besar, Muhammad Muhd Taib while MIC loses its powerful Works portfolio. Amirsham Abdul Aziz, who resigned from the Maybank group is appointed into the Cabinet. He will be appointed to the Senate to enable him to take up his Cabinet appointment. The PM’s son-in-law, contrary to speculation, was not appointed to the Cabinet. A major departure is the the PM has done away with all parliamentary secretaries appointments. As expected more MPs from Sabah and Sarawak are in the new Cabinet due to their solid backing of Barisan Nasional in Parliament.

How often do you let other people's nonsense change Your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss,Or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you're the Terminator, for an instant you're probably set back on your Heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly She can get back her focus on what's important.

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson.

I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab
I hopped in a taxi, and took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, A black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car's back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly.

So, I said, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"

And this is when my taxi driver told me - It is “The Law of the Garbage Truck."

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration,

Full of anger, and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you.

When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personally.

You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happy you did.

I started thinking, how often I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often I take their garbage and spread it to other people:

At work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, "I'm not going to do it anymore."

I began to see garbage trucks.

Like in the movie "The Sixth Sense," the little boy said, "I see Dead People."

One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter Payton, Did this every day on the football field.

He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwelled on a hit.

Payton was ready to make the next play his best. Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting.

Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses.

Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at their best for the people they care about.

The bottom line is that successful people Do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day.

Working...

Today's the 3rd day of my working life...It's much different from my study life.
When study in university, most of us looking forward for working. However, when we started to work, we all missed the study life. haha...

What is the differences between study and working? The first thing is the matter of TIME. In study life, we have a lot of free time. We can arrange our time to join many activities, visit here and there. We have holidays, especially the 2 months holiday after every academic year. We can go back to hometown and stay for months. When come to working life, our time is fixed. We have less time to join activities, less holiday and less chances to go back hometown.

However, I do enjoy my work. I work as a doctor's assistant in a clinic and research center. I think I can learn a lot from her. She is an experienced herbalist doctor, well known in healing leukaemia. I wished to work with her since I first visit her center in last year. I am really glad to work there.

I will share more on health care and naturopathic knowledge in my blog in the future. :)

Days in KL

I stayed in my hometown, Kuantan since I back from Taiwan. After enjoy my holidays for about 2 months, I came to KL again.. I miss my family and the cute baby, Lavender.

These days are rainy days, I catch the flu and suffer from blocked nose.
However, I have good days here.
I am going to share with you what I did these days :)

I came to Kl on tuesday, on that night, I gave a dharma sharing in MU buddhist society dharma class on the topic brahmavihara. I was thankful to the exco for giving me chances to learn and to share. I learnt a lot in the process of preparing the talk. It was a nice experience.

On the next morning, all of my house mate woke up early in the morning at 6am to practice morning puja (chanting) together. After that, some of us who do not have class in the morning were heading to Brickfields Maha-Vihara for breakfast Dana (food offering to Sangha members).
We bought fried meehoon from the mamak stall near to the temple. Most of the monks there are from Sri Lanka, therefore we usually bring along Indian food instead of Chinese food.

Today, in the afternoon, I followed one of my roomate, Sook Kwan to United Voice. It is a charity centre hiring people with learning difficulties. They making some craft like book marks, cards etc for sell. This was the first time I been there. Most of them were so friendly and enjoying their work. They gave us a warm welcome, and introduce themselves when we just step into the centre. Everyone has their own tray with materials to work on. Although they have learning difficulties, they did their jobs very well. We join them in the craft making, help them to tie the bookmarks.
They put so many effort on every single bookmark and card. So, please support them by buying their products if they approach you : )

At night, I went to job interview, and I will start working in PJ next Tuesday!

Tomorrow, is the time for me to balik kampung so that I can vote on 8th of March!

Recently, my friend show me a very impressive video clip which I can't wait to share it with you all.
The video is from UK TV Show, "Britain’s Got Talent" ,which judged by Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.

It is an opera performance by an average looking mobile phone salesman named Paul Potts, sing with the aria that can makes you cry whenever you hear it.
When I watch it for the first time, it gave me goose pimple and I was in tears.

The judges expressions go from tortured and bemused to flat out amazed. The modest guy also got a standing ovation from the audience!

Lemons - the versatile fruit

Lemons - a fruit with a wonderful fragrance, great in food and beverages, but also very handy for multiple purposes around the home!

Lemons have been cultivated by humans for over a thousand years. The fruit in mentioned in tenth century Arabic literature, but was probably first grown in Assam, India.

Lemons are high in vitamin C, have an anti-bacterial effect and are thought to posess antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties. The juice consists of about 5% acid, which also makes them useful for a variety of household purposes.

Selecting and storing lemons

The best lemons are those that have smooth, oily skins and are heavy for their size. They should be bright yellow with no green tinges. Lemons will keep for up to a week at room temperature, two to three weeks refrigerated. Lemon zest (peel) can be frozen for months.

Juicing lemons

To get the most juice from a lemon, it should be allowed to reach room temperature, or microwaved for a few seconds prior to juicing. Using your palm to roll the lemon on a hard surface can also help improve juice yields. If you only need a little juice, some people pierce the end with a fork, squeeze the amount needed, cover the holes with tape and then store in the fridge.

There's so much more to lemons than just using them in cooking and making lemonade! Here's a selection of handy tips. Remember to test in inconspicuous areas first.

Ant deterrent

Pouring lemon juice around areas that ants frequent is said to repel them.

Air freshener

An equal amount of lemon juice and water added to an atomizer will create a wonderful synthetic chemical-free green air freshener for your home.

All purpose cleaner

Again, an equal amount of lemon juice and water added to a spray bottle is an effective kitchen and bathroom cleaner and can also be used on walls (spot test first).

A small amount of lemon juice can also be added to vinegar based cleaning solutions to help neutralize the smell of the vinegar.

Microwave

Heat a bowl of water and lemon slices in your microwave for 30 seconds to a minute; then wipe out the oven. Stains will be easier to remove and old food odors neutralized.

Fridge

Half a lemon stored in your fridge will help control and eliminate unpleasant smells.

Chrome/copper/brass

Rub a lemon juice and baking soda paste onto chrome or copper, rinse and then wipe/buff with a soft cloth or paper towel.

Toilet

Mix 1/2 cup borax and a cup of lemon juice for a powerful toilet cleaner that will leave it smelling extra clean!

Lime scale

Use a half lemon to clean the lime scale off a sink or taps/faucets; rinse well.

Laundry

For bleaching purposes, add 1/2 cup of lemon juice to the rinse cycle and hang clothes outside to dry.

A teaspoon of lemon juice thrown into your wash can also help your clothes to smell fresher.

Dishes

A teaspoon of lemon juice added to your dishwashing detergent can help boost grease cutting power

Drains

Hot lemon juice and baking soda is a good drain cleaner that is safe to use in septic systems.

If you have a garbage disposal unit, throw in some lemon peel from time to time while it's working in order to keep it smelling fresh.

Chopping boards

Rub lemon juice into your wooden chopping board, leave overnight and then rinse. Wood chopping boards appear to have anti-bacterial properties anyway, but the lemon will help kill off any remaining nasties and neutralize odors.

Glass and mirrors

4 tablespoons of lemon juice mixed with half a gallon of water makes an effective window cleaner

Degreaser

Straight lemon juice can be used as a general degreaser

Furniture

2 parts olive oil or cooking oil mixed with 1 part lemon juice makes for an excellent furniture polish!

Hair

To lighten hair, dampen it with lemon juice and sit out in the sun for an hour. This does work, I tried it myself. Hey, it was the 80's!

I've read that the juice of a lemon mixed with one cup warm water makes for a great hair conditioner. It should be allowed to stay in your hair for a few minutes then washed off. Exercise caution if you have a sensitive scalp.

Cuts, stings and itches

A small amount of lemon juice pour onto minor wounds can help stop bleeding and disinfect the injury (it will sting a bit). Lemon juice applied to itches, poison ivy rashes and wasp stings is said to relieve discomfort.

Mouthwash

A 50/50 mixture of lemon juice and water makes for an effective mouthwash.

Hands

The smell of fish can linger on your hands, even after scrubbing with soap - rubbing your hands with lemon juice will neutralize the smell and leave your hands smelling wonderful.

My grandma found it in her house when she clean up the room. We wonder what had happened to it??

It was dwindled in size, curled up like cuttle.

Corn Pudding

Today, I would like to share with you a sweet and nice recipe of corn pudding, with minimal time consumed to prepare.

Ingredients :

1 tin of cream style sweet corn
1 tin of sugar
1 tin of custard powder
a pack of coconut milk and thin it with water (water + coconut milk = 6 tin)
a pinch of salt
Screwpine leave (pandan)

(use the sweet corn tin to measure the sugar, custard powder and water)

Method:
Firstly, I combined all the ingredients into a casserole. A wooden spatula was used to mix the ingredients before heating it up.

After put it over medium heat, kept on stiring to avoid the mixture get crumbled at the bottom.

Then, the mixture became thicken and bubbles formed on the surface. When mixture turned shiny, pandan leave were added. I stirred it for another 5 minutes. The pandan leave were removed.

Finally, the mixture was poured into mould tray and leaf to harden in room temperature.
Do not chill when hot!!!

It is pretty easy, you can try it on your own!!

Gelora Park (Taman Gelora) @ Kuantan

I would like to introduce you all a nice place, Gelora Park, which is a favourite recreational spot for families at weekends in Kuantan.

Various sport activities could be done here including jogging, aerobic dance, exercising, tennis, beach volleyball, bicycling etc.

Gelora Park, with its well laid-out trail for jogging and walking. Specially-designed exercise stations are placed at various locations along the trail.

There is a pebble-studded walkway to give feet a good reflexology workout.

You can also stroll around the lake that is covered with water lilies and lotus plants.

Do try the famous curry puff, which I had recommended in my previous post.

The Gelora Park is a pleasant place to unwind for the weekend!

Curry Puff -- Taman Gelora, Kuantan

When talk about Taman Gelora, people will think of beautiful seaside, jogging track, pinaster, lotus pond, hanging bridge....and CURRY PUFF!!

After attending the CNY celebration on Sunday, we went to jogging @ Taman Gelora in the evening. Firstly, my younger brother refused to follow us. However, he changed his mind when we mention about the curry puff. lols

There is a small stall selling curry puff in the car park opposite to IKIP college.
It's always "self-service", you don't have to tell the makcik how many curry puff you want. All you need to do is stand there, with a plastic bag in your hand and grab the curry puff. It's sound easy, but you may just manage to get 2 or 3 in each round due to too many customer waiting there with their plastic bag in hand too.

If you not able to grab as much as you want, don't worry. Just wait for a few minutes for the next round. While waiting, you can view the making of curry puff by the experienced makcik.

We able to grab 10 curry puff within 2 rounds. It's hot and really crispy. Yummy! Each curry puff cost RM0.60.

Last Sunday, daddy brought us to a CNY celebration in Lee Yuan Restaurant, organized by Kuantan Kwong Siew Association.

Most of the members bring along their family. Special seats with round table were reserved for the old folks.

Wonderful performances and games were prepared to entertain the guests.

Delicious food were provided. All the guests Q up in good order.

Yii..... 3 "big head buddha" !! Hehe, that are Donald, me and my daddy!

CNN : Major quake hits western Indonesia

(CNN) -- A major earthquake shook western Indonesia on Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The magnitude 7.5 quake's epicenter was about 195 miles (315 km), south-southeast of Banda Aceh, on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the USGS said on its Web site.

A 2004 earthquake near Banda Aceh killed hundreds of thousands of people. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued a local tsunami watch for the area -- normal protocol in such instances.

It is up to local governments to issue tsunami warnings. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, according to Indonesian national radio.

The December 26, 2004 earthquake registered 9.0 -- the strongest quake in 40 years -- and was centered about 100 miles from Banda Aceh.

The 2004 quake caused a tsunami that affected the entire Indian Ocean, leaving more than 300,000 people dead or still listed as missing, according to accumulated information from government and health officials, compiled by the United Nations.

HONG KONG (AFP) — Veteran Hong Kong entertainer Lydia Shum died Tuesday aged 60 after a battle with liver cancer, her employer and local media said.

Shum, known for her bouffant hairstyle and wing-tip frame glasses, was one of Hong Kong's most popular actresses and comediennes with a career spanning more than four decades.

Affectionately nicknamed by her fans "Fei Fei" which means "fat" in Cantonese because of her plump physique, Shum won over audiences not only in Hong Kong but in mainland China and Chinese communities around the world.

Shum had been undergoing medical treatment since being diagnosed with the disease more than a year ago.

But in recent weeks, her health had worsened and she was moved into intensive care at Queen Mary Hospital where she passed away, Hong Kong media reported.

Her 21-year-old daughter Joyce Cheng arrived in the hospital but would not speak to the media.

"We can confirm she has died," said Winnie Ho, a spokeswoman for her employer, local television station TVB.

Leading figures in Hong Hong, including the city's chief executive Donald Tsang, paid tribute to the respected entertainer.

"I feel very sad about her death. Fei Fei is Hong Kong's 'happy fruit'. Hong Kong people have grown up with her laughter and she had brought a lot of happiness to us," Tsang said.

"On behalf of the government and Hong Kong citizens, I would like to pay condolences to her family."

Born in Shanghai in 1947, Shum took up acting as a child in the early 60s and quickly became popular thanks to her high spirit and sense of humour.

She went on to star in more than 70 movies, according to Internet Movie Database, and later hosted numerous variety shows produced by TVB, most notably the popular "Enjoy Yourself Tonight."

The actress is survived by Joyce Cheng and her former husband -- actor and singer Adam Cheng Siu-chow.

I had visited to Taiwan for 21 days in the December of 2007. The trip was organized by Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission. There are about 340 Chinese youth from Malaysia (16 to 27 years old) had joined the trip. Here, I am going to share with you about my Taiwan Trip.

2007年的十二月,我参加了海外华裔青年台湾观摩团,到台湾这宝岛观摩了21天。此观摩团由中华民国（台湾）侨务委员会主办，中国青年救国团承办。共有大约340名年龄介于16至27岁的马来西亚华裔青年参与此观摩团。在次，想与您分享这趟台湾之旅的喜悦。

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs. I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat."

"And after that?" asked the Mexican.

"With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your huge new enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

"And after that?"

"Afterwards? Well my friend, that's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start buying and selling stocks and make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?" asked the Mexican.

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends."

And the moral of this story is: ......... Know where you're going in life... you may already be there.

　　一个美国商人曾经在墨西哥海边一个小渔村的码头上，看着一个墨西哥渔夫的小船上有好几条大黄鳍鲔鱼，显然，这是这个渔夫抓来的。这个美国商人对这个渔夫能抓这么高档的鱼恭维了一番，并且问要多少时间才能抓这么多？渔夫说，不一会儿功夫就抓到了。美国商人再问：“那你为什么不再多抓一会，这样你就能抓更多的鱼？”

　　渔夫觉得很不以为然：“这些鱼已经足够我一家人生活所需啦！”

　　美国商人又问：“那么你一天剩下来的时间都在干什么，不是会很无聊？”

　　渔夫很惊讶：“不会啊，我呀，每天都会睡到自然醒，然后出海抓几条鱼，回来就跟孩子们玩耍，中午就跟老婆睡个午觉，到了晚上就到村子里喝点小酒，跟朋友们玩玩吉他，唱唱歌，跳跳舞，怎么会无聊呢，我的日子可过得充实又忙碌呢！”

　　这时，美国商人却不以为然，并给这个渔夫出了一个主意说：“我是美国哈佛大学企管硕士，我想我可以帮你的忙！你每天应该多花一些时间去抓鱼，你就会有更多的收入了，而到时候你就会有足够的钱去买条大一点的船，这样你自然就可以抓更多鱼，然后再买更多渔船。到最后你肯定能拥有一个渔船队。到那时候你就不必把鱼卖给鱼贩子了，而是直接卖给加工厂，这样你就能挣更多的钱去开一家罐头工厂。并且你还可以到墨西哥城，或者洛杉矶，甚至到纽约，在那里扩充企业。”

　　渔夫笑了笑问：“这又花多少时间呢？”

　　美国商人回答：“十五到二十年。”

　　“然后呢？”

　　美国商人大笑着说：“然后你就可以在家享福啦！只要你愿意，你就可以宣布股票上市，把你的公司股份卖给投资大众。那时候你就发啦！你可以几亿几亿地赚！”

　　“然后呢？”

　　美国商人说：“到那个时候你就可以退休啦！你可以搬到海边的小渔村去住。每天睡到自然醒，出海随便抓几条鱼，跟孩子们玩一玩，再跟老婆睡个午觉，黄昏时，晃到村子里喝点小酒，跟朋友们玩玩吉他啰！”

　　墨西哥渔夫疑惑地说：“我现在不就是这样子吗？”

　　这个故事给我们这样的启发：只要能感受每天生活中的快乐，那这个世界就是美好的。活在当下，才能将快乐最大化。

Profile

Ajahn Brahmavamso was born in London in 1951. He regarded himself a Buddhist at the age of 17 but his interest in Buddhism and meditation flourished while studying Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University, UK. After completing his degree and teaching for a year, he traveled to Thailand to become a monk. He was ordained in Bangkok at the age of 23 by the Abbot of Wat Saket. He subsequently spent nine years studying and training in the forest meditation tradition of the late Ajahn Chah.

In 1983 he was asked to assist in the establishment of a forest monastery near Perth, Western Australia. Ajahn Brahmavamso is currently Abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery in Serpertine and the Spiritual Director of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia, teaching and training monks, anagarikas (novices) and the lay people.

Ajahn Brahmavamso is an outstanding monk, teacher and public speaker. He is able to make the Buddha's teachings easy to understanding, inspiring and even entertaining.

On the 4th day of CNY, my brother had brought his wife, Alice，Donald and me to Jenjarom, Selangor to visit FGS Dong Zen Temple. This was the 3rd time I visit to Dong Zen Temple. We were really attracted by the decoration and the atmosphere. The temple dazzled with lamps, tanglung (lantern) and flowers. We reach there around 5pm and leave around 9pm. It's good to reach before dark so that you can take pictures with the flowers. You should stay till dark so that you do not miss out the beautiful lantern all around the temple. It's amazing.

大年初四，哥哥带着大嫂、恒有和我到访佛光山东禅寺。这次是我第三次来到这庄严的到场。我们都被精致的布置和热闹的新年气氛深深的感染了。东禅寺被灯笼花朵以及种种装饰布置得美轮美奂。我们大约下午五点到达，一直到晚上九点才离开。若您打算到访东禅寺，建议您在天黑前到达，那您就能和漂亮的花海合照。当然，千万到待到天黑后才离开，这样才不会错过美丽的花灯。太棒了！

For me, the most excited period in the 1st day of CNY was the lion dance performance in my house. Since 4.30pm, I was waiting for the "lion" to come over.
We hang an "Ang Pao" and lettuce on the front door of my house. That is the "food" for lion.
I love the rhythm of the gong and drum of the lion dance so much.
The lion look like a real playful lion, especially when it wink.
We all should encourage and support more traditional performance so that it can last longer and pass to our posterity.

对我来说，年初一这天最兴奋的环节就是舞狮来我家的时刻。
从4.30pm开始，我就坐在客厅等待着舞狮团的来临。
我们在前门吊着红包和生菜，也在每一个神位前放一封利是。
我非常喜欢舞狮表演时的锣鼓节奏，非常热闹有气氛。
舞狮团舞得非常好，就像一头活生生的、顽皮活泼的狮子，尤其爱看它眨眼睛。
我们大家应该鼓励与支持更多传统表演，让这文化能传承下去。

1st Day of CNY 大年初一

First day of CNY, the first thing I do after awake was search for "ang pao" under my pillow. From childhood, our parent will stealthily put two ang pao (ya sui qian) under our pillow after we fall asleep in the midnight of the 1st day of CNY. This is a traditional practice which means hoping the children having a safety year. For me, this is a meaningful practice. I can strongly felt the blessing and the love of my parent.Although I had grew up,I still hoping my parent will continue this practice on me.

During CNY, people will greeting each other with well-wishing. I sincerely wishing my parent and family members have a better year ahead, have good health , safe, happy always......

We having our breakfast while listen to CNY songs from the FM. Our food for CNY breakfast are various type of tasty CNY cookies and biscuit. The most popular in my house is definitely the home made pine apple biscuit and the native"keropok".

11am,my old friends visit to my house. Everyone wearing new cloth, dress up nicely and lovely. As we grew up, the friends staying in Kuantan are lesser. However, we still carry on our practice as last time by visiting friends' houses one by one. I am really excited and enjoy to gather with old friends. For now,our topic were more on working life instead of study life. I really feel thankful for having all these SMK Alor Akar friends, you will definitely feel happy and cheerful to be with them. Most of them are humorous and friendly.

Besides visiting my friends, I also visit my relatives, especially the uncle and grandma staying next door.

Today, I had asking for forgiveness from my parent. It is a good practice in buddhism and also commonly practiced by Malay during their Hari Raya. I think that we should always asking for forgiveness for all the mistake we had done in the past. Besides asking for forgiveness, we should try to avoid the same mistake in the future.

I had gain about 15 ang pao today! Thanks a lot! :)

大年初一，睡醒的第一件事情就是从枕头下找出父母给我的压岁钱。从小到大，父母都会在我们熟睡时悄悄到我们的房间把两个装着压岁钱的红包放到咱们的枕头下，意味着希望我们可以平平安安度过一岁。对我来说，压岁钱装着父母对孩子的祝福与疼爱。也许是长大了，今年父母打算当面把压岁红包赐给我，但我坚持要父母像往年一样偷偷放在枕头下。（好会撒娇哦！）

新年时，大家都会互相道贺，以及说些吉利的祝福语。我衷心的向亲爱的父母及家人一一道贺，希望大家新年进步，身体健康，平安快乐，事事顺利...

我们一家人一起边听新年歌，边吃早餐。我们的早餐就是吃各式各样的新年饼干。在我们家最受欢迎的新年饼非妈妈辛苦制作的黄梨饼（菠萝饼）与东海岸土产--鱼饼莫属。

11am,我的一班好友就来我家拜年啦！大家都穿新衣，打扮得美美帅帅的。随着年龄的增长，留在关丹的朋友也逐渐减少了。虽然阵容不如往年，但也不影响我们拜年的兴致。就这样一家又一家的拜年。见回老朋友，真开心啊！大家的话题都不在围绕在学业了，而多是谈工作、谈未来。当然，Alor Akar这班兄弟决少不了开玩笑！

除了去朋友家拜年，当然也有去亲戚家拜年。一早，我就到隔壁的舅舅家向外婆及亲戚们拜年啦！

今天，我也向父母求忏悔。求忏悔是实践佛法重要的一环，这也是我们该向马来同胞学习的美德。每逢开斋节，他们都谦虚地向他人请求原谅。这不仅能让我们放下自我，也能让我们省思与检讨自己过去的错误。除了求忏悔，最重要的是未来尽量不再重犯，知错能改，善莫大焉！

这样一天下来，收到的红包也有十多封咯！谢谢长辈们的祝福！

Happy Chinese New Year to all!

The Year of 2008 is the year of RAT!
My daddy and me are the "rats" in the family, this is the year of us!!! lols

As usual, all the family members will gather to have the reunion lunch/dinner during CNY eve.

Mommy had prepare many delicious dishes. Our round dining table were full with various of dishes. Yummy!

I am so excited that my lovely daddy had prepare "Kwong Sai Kou Yok", one of our favourite dishes which we had looking for so long. He had specially spent one whole day to prepare this dishes one day before CNY eve. It is not an easy work, besides the time-consuming process, you have to know how to choose a "3 layer meat" and a mealy yam.

I am so grateful that all my family members had successfully overcome all the challenge in life during the year of pig. We are all wishing for a better year ahead.

We had a happy dinner time. I really enjoy the atmosphere.

After the dinner, we cooperate to do the final clean up jobs to welcome the year of rat!

今年可是爸爸和我的年哦，因为我们俩是家里的“老鼠”！哈哈

像往年一样，我们一家人在除夕夜都会聚在一起吃团圆饭。
妈妈准备了很多美味可口的菜肴。我们的圆饭桌被各式各样的菜肴占满了。

值得兴奋的是爸爸特别准备了他的拿手好菜--广西扣肉！我们可是期盼了好久。爸爸为了亲自准备这一道传统菜肴，特地提早一天收工，精心准备。整个过程除了耗时，还要懂得调味，如何选购肥瘦适中的三层肉和粉粉的芋头！就这样一片肉，一片芋头，不断间隔着。

真的很感恩一家人平安健康的过了一年。我们都期盼未来的一年会比今年更好更进步。
饭后，我们分工合作把剩余的清理与布置工作完成，迎接鼠年的到来！
